As rain has continued to fall intermittently across North Georgia, the number of boating incidents on area waterways has remained low for the usually busy Memorial Day weekend.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) issued its updated report of incidents on Georgia waterways on Memorial Day morning, May 25, showing only two such incidents on waterways in the Northeast Georgia area. Both of those incidents occurred on Lake Hartwell.

In the first incident Saturday afternoon, a young girl suffered a leg injury in a personal watercraft accident. In the second incident Sunday afternoon, another young girl suffered a hand injury after falling off a beached vessel on an island in the lake. Both victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

So far, only one boating under the influence arrest has been reported on Northeast Georgia waterways for the weekend. Statewide, only three such arrests have been made, with only one other boating incident being reported in a river in Bryan County in Southeast Georgia.

The DNR will issue its final report on the holiday weekend on Tuesday morning.
