The Clarkesville City Council will hold a work session Tuesday evening with discussions planned on grant opportunities, transportation planning, budget amendments and ongoing city maintenance concerns.
The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. on May 26.
Among the unfinished business items, council members are expected to discuss yard debris pickup and right-of-way maintenance within the city.
Under new business, city officials will provide an update on several grant projects and applications, including a proposed restoration of the Clarkesville square that could bring $1.6 million in grant funding through the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank. The proposal also includes a $100,000 low-interest loan, a $200,000 right-of-way donation from the city, and additional local funding through LMIG and SPLOST allocations.
Council members are also expected to discuss the Federal Transit Administration’s Pilot Program for Transit-Oriented Development Planning. According to agenda documents, cities with populations under 20,000 can apply for up to $1 million in funding with a required 5% local match.
Additional grant updates include:
- A training simulator grant in which equipment has already been ordered
- A $20,000 license plate reader grant, with equipment expected to arrive in the coming months
- FEMA Assistance to Firefighters and Fire Prevention and Safety grant opportunities due June 22
- The city’s water and infrastructure grant, which is now in the close-out phase
Council members will also discuss and consider approval of Resolution 2026-4 regarding 2025 budget amendments.
The agenda also includes open discussion, public comment and the possible consideration of an executive session before adjournment.
