Music, moving, workmanship, sustenance, history and society are the pulse of this little mountain villa. Local Americans manufactured the Sautee Nacoochee Indian hill which stands today as a demonstration of their enduring foot shaped impression upon the area. The slave lodge on the grounds of the Sautee Nacoochee Center offers an investigate a little divide of the region’s legacy and society alongside the famous Folk Pottery Museum of Northeast Georgia with useful gems made by mortal hands yet regularly showing the inventive soul inside. The Stovall Covered Bridge remains as a demonstration of a period passed by. The Gourd Ladies at The Gourd Place blend the new with the old, sprinkling a little creative energy. People frequently send their particular gourds from around the globe to add to the gathering at the International Gourd Museum. Vineyards spot the scene and a few tasting rooms have opened up giving guests the opportunity to revel in the neighborhood “products of the soil of the wine”.

Glenda’s is one of the White County most known places to eat. Good county cooking is what Glenda’s is all about. This type of food should be easy to come by in white county but it is not. They have traditional southern breakfast items like biscuits and gravy, Breakfast biscuits with ham, bacon, pork tenderloin. You can get a regular egg breakfast with toast grits and meat. The link sausage is very good. Pancakes are also available too. For lunch you can chose from some great Fried chicken, Country Fried Steak, Burgers and Chicken Tenders. Vegetables include green beans, Macaroni and Cheese and great Mash Potatoes. They are kid friendly with a kids menu for the pickiest of kids. The Salad bar is second to none in white county with all the salad trimming. Hope they will add a few more greens but all the favorites are there like chick peas, little corn, and bacon bits to name a few. All the locals eat at Glenda’s. Some say seats are saved there too. You will experience a local place from the wait staff to Atmosphere and cozy feel.

Hofbrauhaus Restaurant and GI Germany Pub in Helen serves great authentic German food. They have to set the bar high and they do because Helen is known for German food. The rustic feel of the restaurant helps one’s mind believe they are in Germany and the food makes the heart feel it, too. German food is not easy to make right that is why most eat it out a restaurant. Our Favorite is the pork schnitzel with spatzle it is not overcooked or breaded and very tender. A specialty they have is the Weiner Schnitzel with Spatzle Potato Pancakes with mushroom gravy which goes great with Beringer white Zinfandel and both are very delish. They have the best Schweinshaxen you can find anywhere. The duck is also a great choice if you have fowl in you. For dessert, the Black Forrest cake is great dessert choice as well as their famous apple strudel. You will experience will be truly German but be in Helen. Hofbrauhaus Restaurant and GI Germany Pub prides itself on making its customer leave feeling they have had the ambiance and atmosphere of a true German Restaurant. The beer and wine alone make it a great place to hang out by the river nearby and the feel inside you may dream you are in the Old town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

We visit Helen frequently, but had never eaten at the Hofbrauhaus. It is located as you leave town going north we seldom to the north end of town. But, we are glad we did this day! We sat at a picnic table by the stream and totally enjoyed a great meal with a glass or two of wine. The goulash was amazing and I loved the giant pretzel. My wife and I shared a Schnizel entrée and it was fantastic. We dine out often so we will definitely return. From Trip Advisor

Opening in 1987 Smoky Mountain Trader of Cleveland, GA with the desire to offer the local feel of pawn and consignment business. Because of the turnover of owners between 1987 and 1999 it lost that special feeling. But in 1999 “Captain” Carl Dann and his wife purchased Smoky Mountain Trader with a grand vision of making a great outdoors store in the Gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Cleveland Georgia. When Captain Dann purchased Smoky Mountain Trader it was thought to be a gun shop with a little outdoor equipment. Captain Dann understood the great need to focus on outdoor equipment–hiking and camping gear and related products–would mean to a great outdoor area like White County . And so, the transition of Smoky Mountain Trader from gun shop to First class outdoor store was made and has been thriving every since.

People have great choices of things to do, whether they just want to hang out for a while, or go hiking in the mountains of North Georgia, or even take a tour of the local galleries and museums of the area, it is all here in White County. Read more…
Deer hunting in White County Georgia is a different than hunting in flat open areas. Deer hunting in the mountains involves burning up shoe leather on daylight-to-dark scouting trips.
You will hunt very hard when the time comes. Some hunters don’t split their hunts into morning and evening sits; they go to their spots before daylight and stay until it gets too dark to shoot. A good hunter can spend about 40 days a season in the woods, whether it is on WMAs or national-forest land. It is hard but more rewarding than South Georgia hunts.
Trying to find horned trees, acorns, persimmon trees, and trails determine whether the deer are up high or down low is where one finds success. If you can find their food sources it makes mountain hunting fruitful. The old saying in North Georgia “If you find the acorns, you’ll find sign and that’s where we’ll hunt.” It Is true for finding deers in these mountain areas in White country and most mountain places.
Most good hunting spots are typically 2 to 3 miles from the nearest road, much deeper in the woods than your average hunter is willing to go. Most hunt from the ground on homemade sling seats, and they carry everything they might need for a day-long hunt with them.
While these bucks may not be viewed as trophies on a south Georgia deer ranch, they are uncommonly big for wild mountain bucks, and these hunters names show up in the record books time after time if you do your homework.
Early season scouting for nourishment sources is where you can find the big deer in their territory . Spotting a deer will give you an indication of the trench where they will begin appearing late in bow season. By hunting hard each weekend of the season, you can keep an eye on the deer movement, and assuredly discover an enormous buck to study and kill. With as little obstruction to the natural habitat as possible will increase the odds of the deer leaving area. Also when scouting these areas you should use a scent blocker like scent-away to protect the area from the human scent.
It’s simply an extraordinary rush to discover a decent buck, hunt him, and kill him after weeks of preparing. It takes more dedication and shape to kill one in these mountains than a easy flat land South Georgia hunt. It can take three or four days to stalk him and kill him — or at any rate see him. It takes long days in the forested areas, simply studying him. You’ve got to take notes to kill a mountain buck but most are not up for the challenge like Robert Deniro in the Deer Hunter.
So it takes long walks into the forested areas, Deer go as the light goes and that is be expected under these mountain circumstances. Watch the size of your pack, 25 pounds is enough. Things you should incorporates spotlights, a good, additional shells, binoculars, a rain suit, water, food, a Coleman catalytic warmer and Icebreaker Boot Blanklet when the weather calls for extremely cool climate.
Keeping your hands, face and feet warm is the key to staying out there the length of time you need to get the big one. One hunter told us to use A Icebreaker HanBlanket while you wait to offset the cold.
Wear as little dress as you can to keep away from sweat, which smells and prompts icy, clammy garments. They convey warm external layers with them and dress once they get to their hunting spots.
Wait until you get to your hunting spot to layer up for the cold weather hunt. Then you are ready to sit patiently in comfort and bag that big buck.
Just know you can do some serious deer hunting in White County Georgia.
