The AJC is reporting that Georgia Congressman David Scott, the first Black man to chair the U.S. House Agriculture Committee, has died at the age of 80.
His death was confirmed by his office. Scott was in the midst of a campaign for his 13th term in office.
No word on when he died and what the cause of death was.
He represented Rockdale County and parts of Clayton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Henry and Newton counties.
