Gainesville city officials have begun seeking bids for the Gainesville Connector Trail, a planned part of the Highlands to Islands Trail. Bids will be accepted until 2:00 p.m. June 25.
The project includes the Airport Connector, which will link the current Midland Trail at Industrial Boulevard to the University of North Georgia campus in Oakwood. It will follow Georgia Avenue, go under the Queen City Bridge, and continue along Aviation Boulevard, Palmour Drive, and finally enter woods near the airport.
It is part of a larger effort to create a continuous off-street, paved trail that is planned to eventually loop around Lanier Islands, accommodating pedestrians, joggers, and cyclists.
