
It’s a law that got little attention when it passed but convicted Super Speeders in Georgia are about to have their vehicles rigged to control how fast they can go.
The state plans to use a new technology called Intelligent Speed Assistance aimed at reducing speeding and reckless driving, according to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS.
And the device really is not just for Super Speeders and reckless drivers. GOHS officials say it could also be used to control the speeds of teenagers and fleet drivers.
Who is a Super Speeder under Georgia law?
According to the state’s Department of Driver Services (DDS), Georgia’s ‘Super Speeder Law’ defines a Super Speeder as a driver convicted of speeding at 75 mph or more on a two-lane road or at 85 mph and above on any road or highway in the State of Georgia. In addition to the fines and fees paid to the jurisdiction where the speeding offense took place, a $200 Super Speeder state fee is to be paid by the convicted driver.
