The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) announced Thursday that the one-county Gainesville Metropolitan Statistical Area saw record-breaking employment gains in April, with an unemployment rate of 2.3%, down five-tenths of a percentage point over the month. Just one year ago, the rate was 2.3%.
The labor force in Gainesville decreased by 305 over the past month and 1,766 over the year, reaching 111,428. The GDOL also noted that Gainesville finished the month of April with 108,889 employed residents, an all-time high. That number increased by 297 over the month and 1,777 from the same time a year ago.
Gainesville ended April with 109,800 jobs. That number increased by 300 from the previous month and 1,000 from the same time last year.
According to the GDOL’s Commissioner, Bárbara Rivera Holmes, “Every single metro area in this state added jobs in April, more Georgians are earning mortgage-paying paychecks, and our workforce is more skilled and competitive than ever. That is what it looks like when Georgia, a Top State for Talent, goes to work.” Holmes also added, “Georgia has always been a state that rewards hard work, and right now, hard work is paying off in a big way.”
The GDOL also announced Thursday that all of Georgia’s Regional Commissions reported lower unemployment rates across the state in April.
