Voters across Georgia headed to the polls Tuesday as the state’s gubernatorial primary races came to a close, setting the stage for a high-stakes general election this fall.
On the Republican side, Rick Jackson will go to a runoff with Burt Jones. The runoff will be held on June 16. Jones currently has 38%, and Jackson has nearly 32%, with 88% of the vote counted.
Keisha Lance Bottoms secured the Democratic nomination for governor with 584,204 votes, representing 56% of the vote.
Key issues throughout the campaign included the economy, healthcare, education funding, public safety and voting laws.
The general election between Lance Bottoms and the republican nominee is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3.
