Gwinnett County police have charged a 33-year-old woman in connection with the fatal stabbing of her mother inside their Stone Mountain home.
The victim has been identified as Janet Morris, 62, of Stone Mountain. Her daughter, Brittany Morris, has been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, police said Friday.
Officers from the South Precinct were called to the 3000 block of Deshong Drive around 4:30 p.m. Thursday on a report of a person down. When they arrived, they found Janet Morris dead from apparent stab wounds.
Detectives quickly identified Brittany Morris, who lived at the residence, as a person of interest. Investigators, with the help of intelligence analysts and uniformed officers, located her elsewhere in Gwinnett County. She was taken into custody, interviewed and later booked into the Gwinnett County Jail.
Police believe the incident was domestic-related.
