Three arrested, including former Athens-Clarke Investigator, in child abuse case

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested and charged three people, including a former Athens-Clarke County Investigator, in an ongoing child abuse investigation in Franklin County.

Chasen Gipson, 18, Wendi Gipson, 54, and William Gipson, 52, all from Carnesville, were arrested in the case. William was an Athens-Clarke County Police Department Investigator and was terminated from the agency after his arrest, according to the GBI.

Chasen Gipson is charged with Attempted Creation of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), Invasion of Privacy, and Child Molestation. Wendi Gipson was charged with 2nd Degree Cruelty to Children. William Gipson was charged with Tampering with Evidence and 2nd Degree Cruelty to Children.

The GBI said the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance with the investigation on May 11. The three were then arrested on Monday, May 18. They remain in the Franklin County Jail without bond.
