Details are limited, but officials in Barrow County and with Apalachee High School are dealing with the reasons behind the employment termination of a teacher from the high school.

Multiple sources are reporting that letters were sent from Apalachee High School principal Jessica Rehberg to parents of students, notifying them about a teacher’s employment termination. 11 Alive in Atlanta reported Wednesday evening that the letter sent to the parents of Apalachee High students read, “A student reported to our school administrators that a teacher made a threat toward a student during class.”

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith told AccessWDUN Thursday morning that, “we are currently investigating the alleged incident involving a teacher and student.  It’s alleged the teacher made a comment that we are investigating could have been threatening.”  Sheriff Smith says he hopes, “…to get to the bottom of the matter today and have an update for everyone.”

It has been nearly 13 months since Barrow County’s residents, public safety departments and the Apalachee High School family were dealt with the tragic loss of two teachers and two students during the late morning shootings on campus during September 4, 2025.
