*Waymo has resumed its robotaxi operations in Atlanta. The company had temporary paused its service in the city due to ongoing inclement weather and flooding. The rideshare services were recently suspended after several of the vehicles quit running after getting stuck on flooded streets. The AJC reports that the company has now resumed its services in Atlanta after addressing the issues caused by the severe weather conditions.
*Atlanta police are cracking down on illegal parking and unpermitted vendors ahead of the FIFA World Cup. Authorities say enforcement teams will target pop-up parking lots, illegal food vendors, unpermitted merchandise sellers, and unauthorized parties at short-term rentals. Property owners who charge for parking without permits could face citations or arrest. Police say legitimate parking areas will display official signage and are urging visitors to avoid unlicensed operations. Authorities encourage travelers to use rideshares or public transportation and will monitor neighborhoods for unpermitted gatherings.
*Cobb County firefighters are reporting a surge in swift water rescues after saving 17 people from floodwaters recently. Officials say several drivers became stranded after entering flooded roads. Fire crews also responded to flooding that affected nearby homes. Authorities say that matches the department’s total water rescues from all of last year.
*A woman was stabbed to death Saturday on a MARTA train in Atlanta. It happened just before noon at the Oakland City station. A suspect is in custody. No word on a possible motive.
