*A Griffin man is behind bars for a nearly 40-year-old murder. Spalding County investigators arrested Joseph Quiros-Soto at his Griffin home for the 1989 shooting death. The now-62-year-old was allegedly trying to rob the victim in his New Jersey apartment at the time of his murder.
*More rain in Georgia’s forecast but experts say the state’s got a long row to hoe to beat the drought. All the recent rain leaves the drought dented but not done-in. Meteorologists say it could still be 2027 before Georgia recovers fully. And that’s only if otherwise normal conditions continue in the fall and winter months.
*A Georgia court rules Savannah’s horse-drawn carriage tours can resume despite the heat. Judge John Morse Jr issuing a temporary restraining order suspending a Savannah ordinance nixing horse drawn tours when the temperature hits 85º or a heat index of 100. But there’ll be a hearing on it June 5.
*The Georgia Chamber of Commerce has launched a new initiative aimed at helping communities determine whether they are prepared to attract data center development. WGAU reportsThe program, called the Data Center Ready Community Designation, evaluates factors including infrastructure, workforce and zoning. “The goal is to help our elected officials and communities make informed decisions and understand what readiness actually looks like. Do you have fiber access, water systems, workforce, plan use, the right zoning?” said Georgia Chamber President and CEO Chris Clark.
