Mr. Anthony Lee Payne, age 80 of Roberts Way, Cornelia passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
A son of the late Roy Payne and Ruth Andrews Payne, he was born June 3, 1945, in Gainesville, Georgia, having lived most of his life in Stephens County. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany for three years. He retired from the United States Postal Service. He loved old cars, driving in the mountains, sitting on the front porch, loved his cats and enjoyed watching Live P.D.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Wolfanger Payne.
He is survived by three sons, Colin Payne, Ethan Payne and Bradley Johnson-Rush all of Cornelia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Chris Shelnut of Hiawassee and Christina and Scott Morgan of Cleveland; grandchildren, Kristianna Payne, Angel Payne, Zachary Shelnut and Isaac Shelnut; great-grandchildren, Mattie Ruth Shelnut and Hayley Sue Shelnut.
Funeral services Saturday, April 18, 2026, 11:00 a.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Mike and Debbie Garroutte officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Bradley Johnson-Rush, Ethan Payne, Colin Payne, Isaac Shelnut and Jody Payne.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Friday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 a.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
Interment will follow in the Roselane Cemetery with Military Honors by the V.F.W. Post 4346 Honor Guard.
