The Gainesville unemployment rate remained steady over the past month and has dropped compared to year-over-over comparisons, according to the numbers released by the Georgia Department of Labor on Thursday.
The unemployment rate for the one-county Gainesville Metropolitan Statistical Area stayed at 3% in August, unchanged from July. In August 2024, the rate was 3.5%.
“Georgia is the No. 1 state for business, and we’re continuing to build a reputation as the top state for talent,” Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes said. “This August, every metro area in Georgia shows lower unemployment than a year ago, and our regional economies continue to see rates decline or hold steady. While month-to-month numbers may fluctuate, the year-over-year progress across all regions proves Georgia’s workforce strategy is delivering results for hardworking Georgians.”
Gainesville finished the month with 105,660 employed residents. That number increased by 27 from the previous month.
Gainesville ended August with 108,700 jobs. That number was up 500 from the previous month.
