Cole Johnson hit a ball off the centerfield fence scoring Drew Payne and lifting Prince Avenue Christian to a 4-3 come from behind victory over Stephens County on Friday night in Bogart.
Stephens County led 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning when 2 of the first 3 Wolverine batters reached on walks. With runners on 1st and 2nd base it appeared that Noah Strickland had Sam Kirkpatrick picked off the base but the ball was dropped and on a play at 3rd base Stephens County was called for a fake tag interference which allowed Kirkpatrick to score the tying run.
The Indians took a lead in the game in the 2nd inning when Findley Ward doubled and scored on Christian Hewitt’s RBI single. Hewitt would later score in the inning on Junior Waldrop’s RBI single to make the score 2-0.
The Wolverines sent 8 men to the plate in the 3rd inning and tied the score at 2-2.
The game remained tied until the 6th inning when Hewitt scored on a passed ball to give the Indians the lead until the bottom of the 7th.
Stephens County finished the regular season at 8-7 in region-8 AA , good for 3rd place behind the two private schools, and 15-12 overall.
The Indians are expected to host the 1st round of the AA state playoffs in a doubleheader on Friday with opponent to be determined. Stay tuned to WNEG or follow on Facebook for playoff announcements.
