Good Thursday afternoon, Dawg fans!!
Before getting into the SEC Tournament, the Dawgs wrapped up the regular season on an impressive high note. Georgia swept the LSU Tigers and secured a series win over the Auburn Tigers, finishing that stretch with a dominant 5-1 record while outscoring opponents 51-39. The strong finish helped solidify Georgia’s place as one of the top teams in the country heading into postseason play.
This past week also brought plenty of individual recognition for the Bulldogs. Head coach Wes Johnson was named SEC Coach of the Year after leading Georgia to a 43-12 overall record and an outstanding 23-7 mark in SEC play. In just his third season at the helm, Johnson guided the Dawgs to the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament, continuing the rise of the Georgia baseball program under his leadership.
On the player side, Daniel Jackson was named SEC Player of the Year while also capturing the SEC Triple Crown following a monster regular season. Jackson finished the year batting .394 with 27 home runs, 77 RBIs, and a staggering 1.328 OPS, cementing himself as one of the most dangerous hitters in all of college baseball.
Now, let’s talk SEC Tournament baseball. The Georgia Bulldogs have officially advanced to their first SEC Tournament semifinal appearance since 2019 after defeating the Mississippi State Bulldogs by a final score of 5-3 minutes ago. Georgia battled through a competitive matchup, but it was Brennan Hudson who delivered the game-changing moment. Hudson launched a three-run go-ahead home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, giving the Dawgs the momentum they needed to punch their ticket to the semifinals.
Georgia will now take on the winner of the Florida vs. Alabama matchup in the SEC Tournament Semifinal, setting up another huge test for the Dawgs as they continue their push for an SEC Tournament title and build momentum heading into the NCAA Tournament. I’ll also be making the trip down to Hoover tomorrow to cover the tournament this weekend and hopefully witness Georgia capture its first SEC Tournament Championship. Hope all of you have a great rest of your week and a safe Memorial Day weekend. As always, GO DAWGS!!!
