A Demorest man was arrested in Toccoa on Monday after a traffic stop when deputies realized he had active warrants relating to child molestation.
According to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), they pulled over 38-year-old Jonathan Scott Barker on U.S. 123 in Toccoa.
During that stop, they became aware of the active warrants and transported him to the Stephens County Jail without incident.
The warrants were issued last Thursday following an investigation in a report that Barker allegedly inappropriately texted a minor.
The sheriff’s office said an individual reported the incident to them, and after an “extensive investigation” there was enough probably cause for deputies to make the arrest.
Barker remains in jail on the following charges:
- Enticing a child for indecent purposes
- Child molestation
- Sexual battery against a child under 16
- Grooming of a minor
- Using computer service to solicit, lure, or entice a child to commit an illegal act
Barker was denied bond and remains in the Stephens County Jail.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing. They added they take all allegations of child molestation and other sexual crimes seriously and if you see something, say something.
