Police in Cleveland were involved in a brief standoff with a man wanted for murder in Franklin County.

The Cleveland Police Department said officers were conducting a follow-up investigation around 11 a.m. Tuesday at a Hood Street residence related to an earlier assault.

During the investigation, officers learned the assault suspect was also wanted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding murder warrant.

The suspect was identified as 55-year-old Julius Scott Dorsey of Cleveland.

Officers learned that Dorsey was inside the residence, hiding in a rear bedroom, and refused to exit.

Believing that Dorsey may have been armed with a weapon, all other occupants were evacuated from the residence.

A SWAT team and additional officers from neighboring agencies assisted at the scene.

Following a brief standoff, Dorsey exited the residence, unarmed, and surrendered to officers without incident.

He was placed under arrest and transported to the White County Sheriff’s Office.

The case remains under active investigation by the Cleveland Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
