Mrs. Mary Nell Powers Batson, age 93, of Toccoa, Georgia, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at Stephens County Hospital, one day before her 94th birthday.

A daughter of the late Jeff and Mary Lou Powers of Lavonia, she was born May 28, 1932, and lived most of her life in Stephens County. Mrs. Batson was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy in life was caring for her family and spending time with her babies. She was a woman of quiet contentment who found happiness in caring for others, being surrounded by family, and living a simple and faithful life.

Mrs. Batson dedicated her life to her family.  She cared for her husband, Marvin Batson, with devotion and steadfastness until his passing in 2018. She spent most of her life raising her children alongside her husband and supporting them in various ways as they raised their own families. Her faith was also exhibited by her Christian service for several decades in the nursery ministry at Sunnyside Baptist Church, where she lovingly cared for generations of children.

Survivors include daughters Lynn (and Tom) Craig of Toccoa, Terri (and Eddie) Powers of Toccoa, Kay (and John) Allgood of Gainesville, and Janet (and Jared) Kaup of Toccoa; sons Tracy (and Nicci) Batson of Toccoa, Eddie (and Johnnie Ruth) Fulbright of Franklin County and; grandchildren Catherine (and Kyle) Brand, Ben (and Shelby) Bridges, Taylor (and Michael) Hall, Sydney ( and Justin) Berezinski, Katie Allgood, Mackenzie Batson, Hannah Allgood, Abby Allgood, Ella Batson, and Jovi Kaup; cherished step-grandsons Jeremy Powers, Michael (and Stephanie) Powers, and Blake (and Kristina) Powers; and great-grandchildren Harper Brand, Cooper Bridges, Bodie Bridges, Salem Bridges, Charlee Wikstrom, Kimber Hall, Graham Powers, Brooks Powers, Reece Powers, Charlie Powers, Mac Powers, Aria Powers, Kip Powers, and Jessie Powers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Batson, and by her daughter, Deborah Fleming.

Surviving siblings include Bonnie Chitwood of Canon, Georgia, and Roger Powers of Lavonia.

She leaves behind a legacy of steadfast love, gentle strength, and Christian faith that will continue through the generations of family she so dearly loved.
