Memorial Day services planned across Northeast Georgia

Communities across Northeast Georgia will pause Monday to honor the men and women who died while serving in the United States military as local governments, veterans organizations and civic groups host Memorial Day ceremonies and observances throughout the region.

Habersham County

A Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. at VFW Memorial Park, located at 1492 Smith Loop Road in Demorest. The annual event honors fallen service members and is expected to include remarks from veterans and community leaders.

White County

Two observances are planned in White County.

The Roy Head Post No. 16 American Legion will host a Memorial Day program at 9 a.m. at Freedom Park in downtown Cleveland.

A second ceremony is planned for 9:30 a.m. at Helen Veterans Park on Brucken Strasse in Helen. The event is hosted by the Northeast Georgia Veterans Society.

Stephens County

Camp Toccoa at Currahee will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at the pavilion located at 2351 Ayersville Road in Toccoa. Organizers encourage attendees to arrive by 10:30 a.m. for seating before the ceremony begins.

Rabun County

Rabun County’s annual Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Rabun County Courthouse in Clayton. The observance will recognize local veterans and honor those who gave their lives in military service.

Franklin County

Franklin County officials and veterans groups will gather at 9 a.m. Monday at the Memorial Plaza at the Franklin County Courthouse in Carnesville for a Memorial Day service honoring fallen military personnel.

Hall County

Several events are planned across Hall County.

The annual Memorial Day Parade hosted by Paul E. Bolding American Legion Post 7 will begin at 10 a.m. in Gainesville. The parade route starts at First Baptist Church Gainesville and travels down Green Street to EE Butler Parkway and Spring Street.

A remembrance ceremony is also planned for 10 a.m. at Veterans Park in Lula.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard will host its annual Memorial Day vigil from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Veterans Garden at Memorial Park South Cemetery, located at 4121 Falcon Parkway in Flowery Branch. A memorial ceremony featuring a 21-gun salute is scheduled for noon.

Monday evening, the Northwinds Symphonic Band will present a Memorial Day concert at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Gainesville.

Hart County

Hart County’s Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the courthouse in Hartwell.
