Member of Congress preaches unity; Waffle House employees rally; Mayor resigns

*Georgia Cong. Rich McCormick used his Saturday commencement speech at Morehouse School of Medicine to preach unity. Dr. McCormick is White and faced student pushback when the mostly black school announced him as commencement speaker. He graduated from the school in 2010 and is running for re-election in Georgia’s 7th Congressional District.

**Waffle House employees rally in Atlanta for higher wages. They are seeking safer conditions and $25 an hour from Georgia-based restaurant. In addition to higher wages, they are seeking 24/7 security while at work and an end to having to pay for their meals on the job.  

*Cohutta is looking for a new mayor. Ron Shinnick has resigned following roughly a month of allegations involving members of his family. Shinnick had been mayor of Cohutta for 12 years. Last month, members of the Cohutta Police Department and a former jailer had signed an open letter accusing town clerk Pam Shinnick of creating a hostile work environment.
