Traffic pattern change coming to Hall Co. road

A temporary traffic pattern change will be implemented along a portion of White Sulphur Road beginning May 26, as ongoing road construction is being completed as part of the White Sulphur Road, Phase II, widening project.

“We intentionally scheduled the bulk of this work during the summer months to minimize impacts to school traffic, but we do expect this traffic change to be in place for the next several months,” Assistant Hall County Public Works Director Brent Cook said. “We appreciate the public’s patience as crews work to complete these improvements safely and as efficiently as possible.”

The affected portion of White Sulphur Road within the project limits will operate under a temporary one-lane, one-way traffic pattern. Signed detours and traffic control measures will be in place to safely direct motorists through the area.

“The temporary traffic pattern will begin near the driveway of Busker Communications, extending just beyond Airline Baptist Church,” Cook said. “While the impacted section is relatively short, drivers should plan ahead and expect delays.”

A detour will be in place at the intersection of Ramsey Road and White Sulphur Road, directing traffic along State Route 365 (Cornelia Highway). All through traffic, Cook added, should utilize the detour, as the affected portion of White Sulphur Road will remain open only to local and Gainesville Inland Port traffic.

County officials have said that once completed, the widening project will improve traffic flow and safety near the Gainesville Inland Port by widening the existing roadway, improving access to State Route 365 and enhancing pedestrian accessibility.  Construction is expected to be completed by the end of next spring.
