The Stephens County Indians and Morgan County Bulldogs split a pair of games on Thursday by identical scores, and are tied 1-1 in the best of 3 series in the 2nd round of the AA state playoffs in Madison.
In game one, Stephens County scored one run in the 2nd inning and two runs in the 3rd to take a 3-0 lead.
Morgan County scored one in the 6th inning, but that was as close as they could get as the Indians took a 3-1 victory over the #2 seed Bulldogs.
Indians pitcher Findley Ward was outstanding, pitching a complete game while allowing only 1 run on 6 hits to get the win.
Ty Tillery, an Auburn commit, pitched well but took the loss in going 7 innings and allowing 3 runs on 7 hits.
Ward, Duke Collins, and Branson Stowe each scored for the Indians, and Carmelo Renfroe picked up an RBI on a bases-loaded walk.
In game two, Morgan County’s Davis Strickland pitched a complete game, allowing only one run and three hits while striking out nine to lead the Bulldogs to a 3-1 win.
Morgan County scored 2 runs in the 5th inning on RBI’s by Tillery and Strickland.
Stephens County pulled within one in the bottom of the 5th when Christian Hewitt scored on a passed ball.
Hudson Reed’s home run in the 7th inning provided the game’s final score.
Noah Strickland pitched well but took the loss, allowing 5 hits and 1 run in 4 innings. Noah Holbrooks pitched the final 3 innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs.
Morgan County is now 29-4 on the season, and Stephens County is 18-13.
The two teams will meet in a deciding game on Friday at 5:30 P.M. Airtime will be 5:05 P.M. on WNEG.
Franklin County advanced to the Elite Eight in the playoffs, defeating the #3 seed Thomson 14-0 and 15-0.
Elsewhere in the Class A Div. 1 Playoffs, Worth County swept Banks County 3-1 and 10-3, and Elbert County swept Pepperell 12-2 and 10-3.
