Good morning, ‘‘Dawg fans. Obviously this weekend don’t turn out the way we planned. But hey, it could always be worse. We could be Auburn fans. So at least there’s something to celebrate.

Also worth celebrating on this September morn? The weekend commitment of Albany (Westover High) offensive lineman Kyson “Big Kuntry” Mallard. Mallard is one of the top 15 interior linemen in the nation for 2027, and could actually rise higher.

Also in the good news department, Georgia opens as a 21.5 point favorite over Kentucky this weekend. The Wildcats are fresh off a 35-13 thrashing at the hands of the South Carolina Gamecocks that has Wildcat fans asking if they can afford not to fire Mark Stoops. Maybe it’s my Munson acting up, but this feels like a setup for a Kentucky team with its back against the wall to come out and play with its hair on fire in front of a sleepy noon crowd in Sanford Stadium.

Less great news? Georgia dropped precipitously in the polls and Gunner Stockton is now among the also-rans in the Heisman race while Ty Simpson is looking like one of the favorites. Of course that’s all subject to change with Diego Pavia and the Vanderbilt Commodores coming to Tuscaloosa.

It’s a long season after all, and a lot can still happen. Like finding a pass rush and starting big games fast on offense. A fellow can dream right?

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
