Dawgs in the NFL: Blocked kicks and big man touchdowns

I’m running out of ideas for how to begin these articles. There are only so many ways you can use some form of “while the Dawgs of today had a great game Saturday, some great Dawgs of yesterday shone in the NFL.” I’m not desperate enough to use ChatGPT, so I guess I’ll continue to brainstorm.

Anyways, back to the topic at hand, there were some memorable moments from some of your favorite Georgia Bulldogs during week three of the new-ish NFL season. Let’s be honest, though, you just want to see that Jordan Davis touchdown again. I don’t blame you, so here ya go:

Beyond the game-sealing touchdown, Davis played a big role in the Philadelphia Eagles’ comeback victory over Matthew Stafford (who threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns) and the Los Angeles Rams. The Charlotte native and honorary member of the Redcoat marching band had five tackles on the day and a sack. Fellow and former teammate Jalen Carter also blocked a field goal in the game as the Eagles moved to 3-0 on the season.

Switching over to Thursday night, the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins squared off in an AFC East division matchup, with the Bills getting the win 31-21. Former Georgia running back James Cook had a solid game for the Bills, earning 108 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. This was Cook’s tenth career 100-yard rushing game in his young NFL career.

Here are some other notable former Dawgs from week three:

  • Despite his team losing the game, former Bulldog John Jenkins turned in a solid effort for the Baltimore Ravens with eight tackles, including one tackle for loss. Jenkins has managed to carve out a nice 13-year pro career after being taken by the New Orleans Saints in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
  • Detroit Lions’ rookie Tate Ratledge impressed on Monday night football in his team’s win against the Ravens. The Rome, GA native earned a PFF grade of 91.4 following his opponents. With this type of play, expect Ratledge to earn more playing time for Dan Campbell and the Lions.
  • The news wasn’t all good for the Eagles following their win on Sunday. It was reported today that outside linebacker Nolan Smith was placed on the injury reserve for a strained triceps he suffered against the Rams. The Savannah native had tricep surgery in February following the Super Bowl. He is expected to return in November. Best wishes for Nolan in his recovery!
  • I think I might have spoken too soon last week when I described the Atlanta Falcons as having a “dominant defense”. My bad.

That’s all the NFL news for the week. Now, let’s lock in and take down the Tide this Saturday in Athens.

Go Dawgs!
