  • Content creator Sara Parker explains why nostalgic, traditional Christmas decor is making a comeback, pointing to a cultural desire for familiarity, comfort and stability
  • From patience and thrifting to heirloom-quality pieces, Parker shares how intentional decorating — rather than chasing trends — leads to spaces that feel timeless and personal

There’s a reason Christmas decor feels more emotionally charged than ever this year. As the world moves faster and trends continue to evolve, the pull toward familiarity, warmth and tradition has grown to be stronger than ever.

This collective shift is easy to spot across platforms, where old-world details, layered textures and classic color palettes (like the Ralph Lauren–inspired Christmas aesthetic) are dominating our social media feeds.

It’s precisely within this return to tradition that content creators like Sara Parker have caught the attention of thousands. Online, the Memphis-based furniture and lighting designer breaks down everything from Christmas color palettes to the latest holiday trends dominating the internet.

The 35-year-old content creator attributes the widespread appeal of the Ralph Lauren aesthetic to what she describes as a broader “resurgence of nostalgia,” telling PEOPLE that during periods of uncertainty, people naturally gravitate toward traditions and familiar touchstones that feel comforting and safe.

For Parker, this cultural pull toward classic Christmas decor also marks a clear departure from the minimalist holiday aesthetic that dominated interior design for years.

When asked what she predicts will continue shaping holiday decor — and which details people may be overlooking — Parker points to patience. Rather than rushing to recreate an impromptu, Pinterest-perfect tree in a single season, she encourages taking time to build decor collections gradually, choosing pieces that feel meaningful and lasting rather than trend-driven.

“Oftentimes it’s your grandmother’s tree that has taken decades,” she says. “So I think one thing we overlook is the power of patience — taking your time and making a curated tree with things that will end up becoming an heirloom.”

Parker also addresses the ongoing conversation around changing Christmas aesthetics each year, a topic she says frequently comes up in her comment sections.

While there’s a perception that social media has normalized completely reinventing holiday decor annually, she notes that “not everybody… is changing their Christmas aesthetic every year,” explaining that for many people, decorating is shaped by circumstance rather than trend.

“The way I think about it is, if something brings you happiness, I mean, do it,” she says.

Parker’s emphasis on intention and familiarity proves that how we choose to decorate for the holidays often reflects something much deeper.

This is where astrology comes into play, adding another lens to how we create comfort and meaning at home. As you’re building your own Christmas aesthetic to put up year after year, your zodiac sign can help you decide on the perfect fit.
