The woman arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in Oakwood for concealing the death of a child has now been charged with murder.

The GBI said Jessica Motes, 36, of Gainesville, faces charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to children. Motes was originally arrested for concealing the death of a 4-year-old girl.

The GBI began investigating the incident on Oct. 26 after a request from the Oakwood Police Department and the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

An incident report obtained by AccessWDUN through an Open Records Request with the Oakwood Police Department said officers found the child’s body in the trunk of a red 2016 Nissan Sentra in the parking lot on Mundy Mill Road. Officers were first called to the scene at 3:22 p.m. Oct. 26.

“The information being received was that a mother had contacted family members about some type of injury involving her child,” the narrative from the incident report said.

Motes was reportedly seen by her father driving into the Sam’s Club parking lot in Oakwood. She allegedly told her father she hurt the victim and that “I think she is dead,” according to the warrant.

Her father then drove her away from the parking lot and encountered law enforcement.

Motes remains in the Hall County Detention Center.
