The senior game is very sentimental, as it should be. The last (regular) game at home. So many lasts. Like graduation, it is both sad and exciting. Those who handle scheduling usually try to schedule an opponent who will be reasonably easy to beat. Such was yesterday’s game against the Charlotte Forty-Niners.
Yesterday’s plus one was a friend who I met when her eldest was in my class. We talked regularly when eldest, then youngest were going through high school. Now we visit every couple of months when I go see her at her place of employment. It was on the last such visit, when we were talking Bulldog Football, that I happened to mention that I didn’t have a plus one for this game, and she volunteered.
We left (reasonably) on time, but I had not checked the amount of gas in the car, so we had to stop on the way. That stop meant we missed the Dawg Walk, but such is life.
It has been years since friend was at a game. She watches regularly with her husband, but even when hubs has been able to go, it has been with a friend who only had one spare ticket, so yesterday was her turn.
The weather, despite looking questionable at first, was truly delightful. The Battle Hymn soloist did an excellent job, and a good time was had by all.
However, it is our intention to celebrate Georgia Bulldog Football Wins whenever and wherever they occur. The ugliness or beauty of any particular win is irrelevant for the purposes of the Winning Smart Victory Post. It is therefore my deepest honor and privilege to bring to you this week’s edition of: The Winning Smart Victory Post.
Coach Kirby Smart coached his 135th game this week for the Red & Black. He currently boasts a 115-20 record and a 0.8519 winning percentage, having carded his one hundred fifteenth win overall in the eleventh game of the 2025 season against the Charlotte Forty-Niners.
At the identical juncture in their careers:
Vince Dooley’s 135th game as head coach resulted in a Georgia Bulldogs loss to Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl, giving Coach Dooley a record of 91-40-5 and 0.6926 percentage.
Coach Mark Richt was 99-36 (0.7333) after a loss to UCF in the Liberty Bowl.
One hundred and thirty five games into his head coaching career Kirby Smart is sixteen games ahead of Coach Mark Richt and ahead of Coach Vince Dooley by 24 games. As of now, he is holding his own versus the two winningest coaches in Georgia Football History.
As always . . .
Go ‘Dawgs !!!!
