“I SAID IT’S GREAT (bum bum) TO BE (bum bum) A GEORGIA BULLDOG! (repeat x ∞)” ~ Podunkdawg
If you’re not hearing that in Podunk’s voice, then in all likelihood, you never met her. After a game like yesterday’s, it’s all I hear. She was ALWAYS a Dawg, but she was loud and proud after a win, especially a quality win like yesterday’s.
I may have mentioned that my day job starts early. Like, stupid early. I must be at work no later than 6:30AM. Thanks to a miniscule commute (~3 miles), I can usually leave my house by 6:15, but I do usually try to leave by 6:00. That means my first alarm goes off at 4:00AM, with my “get out of bed NOW alarm at 4:15AM.
By Friday afternoon, I am beat. But this week, Mr. Squillian’s band was playing at the Whistle Post in Conyers. If you’ve never been, it’s a nice place, but that’s about all I can say. The staff is nice, the food is decent, etc. But his gig meant that I didn’t get to bed early Friday night. So, as much as I really wanted to be out of the house yesterday morning by 10:00, it was closer to 10:45 before we got on the road.
I had originally expected that my plus one this week would be a work colleague I’ve taken before, but a week or two ago he decided that he wanted to be home because his daughter (a senior) decided to go to Homecoming. Perfectly reasonable decision, in my opinion. Coupled with Mr. Squilian asking a couple of weeks ago when he was going to get to go (I didn’t think he really wanted to go, but here you are), and we had a perfect match.
By the time we got parked, the fan shuttle buses were running, so we caught one to the stadium. We then walked over to the Tate Center for the Dawg Walk. I didn’t get my usual spot next to the fence, but I was able to get a spot behind the drumline, which was nearly as good.
I think Mr. Squillian got a little frustrated with me – when we discussed food, I said I expected to get a CFA sammich at the game. What he didn’t expect was that I was going to pass at least 3 places to get one. Friends, the last time I didn’t get a CFA sammich from the CFA stand nearest my seat was the Alabama game, and we all know what happened then. I was NOT tempting fate. After the second CFA stand, I said “look. I may not be superstitious, but I am a little stitious.” We got our sammiches and drinks, and headed to our seats.
In spite of the fact that Mr. Squillian will match me when yelling at the TV, he is suspiciously quiet when actually at the game. The gentleman to my right matched me, though. By the end of the game, I think I may have even heard Mr. Squillian yell a time or two, and not at the referees (or players)!
However, it is our intention to celebrate Georgia Bulldog Football Wins whenever and wherever they occur. The ugliness or beauty of any particular win is irrelevant for the purposes of the Winning Smart Victory Post. It is therefore my deepest honor and privilege to bring to you this week’s edition of: The Winning Smart Victory Post.
Coach Kirby Smart coached his 131st game this week for the Red & Black. He currently boasts a 111-20 record and a 0.8473 winning percentage, having carded his one hundred eleventh win overall in the seventh game of the 2025 season against the Rebels of Ole Miss.
At the identical juncture in their careers:
Vince Dooley’s 131st game as head coach resulted in a Georgia Bulldogs win over Richmond in the eighth game of the 1975 season, giving Coach Dooley a record of 88-39-5 and 0.6908 percentage.
Coach Mark Richt was 98-33 (0.7481) after a win over Kentucky in the eighth game of the 2010 season.
One hundred and thirty one games into his head coaching career Kirby Smart is thirteen games ahead of Coach Mark Richt and ahead of Coach Vince Dooley by 23 games. As of now, he is holding his own versus the two winningest coaches in Georgia Football History.
As always . . .
Go ‘Dawgs !!!!
