Much was made by all of us – fans, talking heads, etc. that this game had potential to be a trap game. Early start, time zone difference, sandwiched between two (much) bigger games….there was a lot to concern folks. Throw in this year’s team’s tendency to start slowly and the recipe for disaster was easy to see.
I had the opportunity to spend Saturday morning with my eldest (she of the NATS degree), so we spent some time together spending money. It meant I didn’t sit down to watch the game until about 1:30, but TiVo is a beautiful thing, and I didn’t have to suffer through the inanity that is today’s commercial advertising.
I think the Big Dawg said it best – this wasn’t a complete game start to finish, but it was definitely the closest this team has been all season. We had a couple of calls go against us, and a couple of (thankfully minor) injuries, but in the end, it was perhaps the best performance this team has had.
However, it is our intention to celebrate Georgia Bulldog Football Wins whenever and wherever they occur. The ugliness or beauty of any particular win is irrelevant for the purposes of the Winning Smart Victory Post. It is therefore my deepest honor and privilege to bring to you this week’s edition of: The Winning Smart Victory Post.
This was the 900th UGA win in program history, a feat only 10 other programs have managed. That makes Georgia’s overall record 900-433-54 (0.6683).
Coach Kirby Smart coached his 133rd game this week for the Red & Black. He currently boasts a 113-20 record and a 0.8496 winning percentage, having carded his one hundred thirteenth win overall in the ninth game of the 2025 season against the Bizarro Bulldogs of Mississippi State.
At the identical juncture in their careers:
Vince Dooley’s 133rd game as head coach resulted in a Georgia Bulldogs win over Auburn in the tenth game of the 1975 season, giving Coach Dooley a record of 90-39-5 and 0.6955 percentage.
Coach Mark Richt was 99-34 (0.7444) after a win over Idaho State in the tenth game of the 2010 season.
One hundred and thirty three games into his head coaching career Kirby Smart is fourteen games ahead of Coach Mark Richt and ahead of Coach Vince Dooley by 23 games. As of now, he is holding his own versus the two winningest coaches in Georgia Football History.
As always . . .
Go ‘Dawgs !!!!
