Wildland International, Inc: Bed Tent [SHOT 2026]
At SHOT Show 2026, overlanders and truck campers could get a glimpse of something truly different from your average clamshell rooftop tent. Wildland International Inc., a global outdoor gear brand known for pushing RTT design boundaries, brought their newest innovation — the Wild Land Wingman X — and it immediately stood out on the show floor.
Rather than a simple tent bolted to your roof, the Wingman X is a two-level, fully automatic pickup-mate system that transforms the back of your truck into a comfortable, multifunctional basecamp. It uses a hydraulic-style, remote-controlled scissor lift mechanism to raise a sleeping deck above a lower area that you can use for cargo, lounging, dining, or extra sleeping space.
Speaking to people on the floor, they reported that this system was rigorously tested in diverse weather conditions — from heat to high winds — and that it handled everything they threw at it without drama. It felt surprisingly roomy on both levels. The upper sleeping area features a queen-size mattress, a lightweight hatch with smooth action, a panoramic skylight, mesh windows for ventilation, and quality finishes that make it feel more like a tiny rooftop loft than a tent. The sturdy ladder and solid construction gave the top bunk a secure, confident feel.

What really impressed me was how versatile the lower deck feels. When deployed, it’s sheltered enough for a picnic out of the sun, gear storage during rain, or just a dry spot to hang out with a cup of coffee while watching the sunrise. The ability to operate each level independently adds even more flexibility in the outdoors.
On the technical side, the Wingman X offers non-destructive installation on a wide range of pickups, meaning you don’t have to drill into your truck bed — a big plus for many owners. It includes integrated safety locks, radar obstruction sensors, and one-touch power off for peace of mind during setup. Inside, features like integrated lighting, Bluetooth speakers, and multiple vented panoramic windows hint at the creature comforts Wildland has packed into the platform.
While Wildland International may not yet have the name recognition of some legacy RTT brands, their focus on creative design, rigorous testing, and outdoor functionality shows a company serious about redefining how people live and travel with their trucks. From the Wingman X’s innovative two-tier layout to its smooth automation and solid build quality, this is one piece of gear that will have SHOT Show attendees talking about long after the doors closed.
