Traveling for work can put a strain on relationships.
One woman never questioned her husband, until a recent work trip. In a Reddit post, the 30-year-old woman shared that she and her 40-year-old husband have been married for four years. They share two young children, a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old.
“Our marriage has had its normal ups and downs, but he’s never given me a reason to think he might cheat, until now,” the woman wrote.

“Recently, he went on a weeklong work training trip to Delaware. Normally, we talk every night and even fall asleep with the phone on together. But one night, that didn’t happen,” she wrote.
“I had a small work get-together and got home around 9 p.m. He knew and was fine with it. After getting the kids to bed, I tried calling him around 10:30 p.m. I called three times but couldn’t reach him. I figured he had fallen asleep early,” she continued.

The next morning, her husband called her. They talked about his day, and he told her that he went to bed early the night before because he was tired.
“But while we were talking, I suddenly heard a woman’s voice nearby say, ‘I am not having an affair!’ clear as day,” the woman wrote. “He sighed loudly afterward, but I brushed it off, assuming it was someone outside his hotel room and he was just annoyed by the noise.”
When the man returned home, he told his wife stories about the trip and his co-workers. He then “accidentally” told her that he had invited a female co-worker into his hotel room.
“Apparently, their rooms were connected by an adjoining door, and he wanted to ‘see what the other room looked like,’ so he asked her to open the shared door so they could check each other’s rooms out,” she shared. “I asked when that happened, and he said it was the same night we couldn’t reach each other.”

“If this was your husband, what would you have thought? Am I overreacting?” she asked.
People in the comments section of the post agreed that the woman had a right to be skeptical of her husband’s behavior.
“Are you sure he accidentally let it slip, or was he just being open with you? There’s a huge difference there,” one person commented.
Another wrote, “That ‘I’m not having an affair!’ line is enough to make things suspicious. And married people do not invite coworkers into their hotel rooms. Period.”
