White County Parks and Recreation named Agency of the Year

CLEVELAND, Ga. — White County Parks and Recreation has been named Agency of the Year by the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA). The honor was announced Oct. 22 during the District 7 Awards Banquet at the new Recreation Center at Yonah Preserve.

Top recognition for growing programs

The award recognizes White County Parks and Recreation in the 20,001–30,000 population category. GRPA officials praised the department for its commitment to recreation, community wellness, and youth development.

Awards Committee Representative Manda Groff commended the county for expanding its programs and facilities. The new two-court gymnasium and splash pad at Yonah Preserve were highlighted as key projects serving residents of all ages.

Team effort behind the success

Director of White County Parks and Recreation Kimberly McEntire accepted the award alongside her staff. She said the recognition reflects the teamwork and support behind the department’s growth.

“We are deeply honored to be recognized as Agency of the Year,” McEntire said. “This award represents the dedication of our staff, the support of county leadership, and the spirit of a community that values recreation and wellness. We’re excited to continue expanding the programs that make White County a great place to live and play.”

Volunteer of the Year

The celebration also included an individual award for Barry Vandiver, who was named Volunteer of the Year in the same population category. Vandiver was recognized for his outstanding work with the HEROES Program, which provides inclusive recreational opportunities for children with special needs.

County leaders show support

White County Administration and members of the Board of Commissioners attended the event to celebrate the department’s success.
