CLEVELAND, GA -Some great news for White County just a few days before Thanksgiving. The county has received word that the federal government has approved a $500,000 grant to be used in the construction of a new county library.
During Monday’s county commission meeting, Commission Chairman Travis Turner shared an email he received from Senator Jon Ossoff’s office, which contained the good news. The email said the funds were made available through the Fiscal Year 26 Agriculture, Rural Development, and Related Agencies appropriations bill.
The email stated that a few additional steps will be needed before the funding can be released.
Chairman Turner did add, “We will be going through this to verify that what requirements are associated with this grant requirements that we as a community can live with.”
Even though the county is thankful for the money allocated, local officials had initially asked for $2 million in assistance.
Turner completed his comments with, “shared our appreciation as a White County community, and as I told them, I put what a wonderful way to start our nation’s week of Thanksgiving. So we thank God for His blessings.”
