Wednesday Dawg Bites Could Use A Better Start

Slogans and catch phrases have a shelf life of their own, even for programs like Georgia.

Attack The Day, Keep Chopping Wood…you still hear those mentioned, but not as much as they were during their apex of use.

These days, there’s another one of emphasis: “do simple better.”

That timing fits now for a defensive unit that for some reason that continues to elude logic starts games slowly on that side of the ball. In four of five games, the Bulldogs have given up opening-drive scores. That’s hardly what you would call setting the tone.

And with someone not named Billy Napier calling plays now for Florida? The importance of a good start is even more important.

Georgia defensive lineman Jordan Hall is among those that know this. The challenge? actually doing it when it counts…from the opening whistle.

The fact that you expect Florida to be reinvigorated is a concern enough for Saturday in Jacksonville. A greater worry? Gators quarterback DJ Lagway is healthier. Fired coach or not, this is a team that got going late last year, and it’s one that believes it can do so again.

You won’t find many with sympathy for Brian Kelly, for sure.

Kelly, the latest to be given an absurd pile of cash not to work, is the latest in the line of coaches to be out of a job for one simple reason – that they could not do what was asked of them when hired.

Take away all of the unlikeables with Brian Kelly. All of that gets cancelled out when you win. The goal is still the same – just win.

It’s why Kirby Smart will always be Kirby Smart for Georgia. Yes, there are frustrations with in-game decisions and headaches on traffic, concession wait times, and everything else. Even as fans, being asked to support the team through a Hartman Fund donation and backing an NIL collective hurts less as long as you win.

The Red & Black paints a nice picture of the emotion any of us who’ve sought out some good old soul food are feeling these days – the sadness that Weaver D’s is nearing the end of its run.

Speaking of the gang from the top of Baxter Hill, they also have a nice wrap up of the NFL Dawgs from the past week.

Florida is God’s gift to college football. Just ask their fans that seem to believe that football began in 1990. You can’t blame them for not wanting to forget the 1985 game against Georgia when the top-ranked Gators got run over left and right by 17th-ranked Georgia…
