Well, just as we were promised, the last few days, weatherwise, have been something like a roller coaster ride. Warm, sunny days. Stormy weather. Strong winds. Rain, sleet, snow. Bone-chilling wind chills. But save for few power outages and downed trees, the Gainesville area emerged virtually unscathed.
“Hall County experienced a few trees across the roadway yesterday and overnight with minimal impacts,” Hall County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Director (EMA) Zach Brackett said Tuesday morning.
The top wind gust in Gainesville the past 24 hours at the airport was 40 mph, recorded late Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures fell 28 degrees in the 24 hours ending at midnight last night.
Early risers Tuesday were greeted with decreased winds but enough, combined with the freezing temperatures, to put wind chills in the low-mid 20s.
Spring does arrive this week – Friday morning at 10:46 – with sunshine and highs in the low 70s in the forecast.
