A Florida police officer has died after being involved in a motorcycle crash while on the job.
Miami Beach Police Department motorman David Cajuso was involved in the fatal crash on Tuesday, Oct. 28, the department said in a statement.
The crash occurred “along the northbound lanes of Interstate 75, in the area of NW 138 Street,” the MBPD said in a post on X prior to the officer’s death.
Police said the officer was on his motorcycle when he lost control and went down a steep embankment, according to WPLG.
The officer “was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition,” where he later died, according to police.
Cajuso spent 10 years as an officer in Miami Beach “with courage and an unwavering commitment to public service,” authorities said.
Cajuso’s death comes eight years after the 33-year-old officer survived being run over by a woman who was fatally shot by police, NBC affiliate WTVJ reported at the time.
