The woman who was allegedly killed by a Gainesville man in Cumming recently had been reported missing in Dawson County earlier this year. That’s according to the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office.

“When the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) learned that a member of our community was missing, our investigators began working the case and following every lead as it extended beyond Dawson County,” says a posting on the sheriff’s office Facebook page.

“DCSO remained closely involved, working alongside our local, state, and federal partners to support the investigation in every way possible. Our Warrants Unit worked hand-in-hand with assisting agencies, and we were all proud to learn of the arrest.”

Diaja Benson, 30, had been the subject of a missing person lookout issued by the sheriff’s office in February. Also, on poster that was issued is a picture of the man who is now accused of killing her, Loron Spaulding.

The GBI announced Spaulding’s arrest Thursday, saying he had been picked up in New Jersey by the U.S. Marshals Service. EAELIER STORY. POSTED THURSDAY NIGHT: Gainesville man charged with murder
