The City of Royston Fire Department was called to a structure fire with trapped occupants in Hart County while it was on its way back from the Lavonia Christmas Parade Sunday afternoon.

The department shared in a social media post that crews were called to the scene at around 4 p.m. while traveling on Highway 17. At the time, the crews were two minutes away from the reported fire and decided to provide mutual aid to the Hart County Fire Department.

Upon arrival, heavy fire conditions were found with unknown entrapment. RFD said that the fire was made under control and no occupants were found within minutes. However, two puppies were removed from the home and are expected to live.

No injuries were reported.

The department noted that the engines that were in the parade and responded to the scene are considered “backup” engines, which is why they are typically used for special events.
