An overnight shooting with fatal results inside an Elberton fast food restaurant leads to an active search for the suspect by local police and Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

A press release late Tuesday night from Elberton Police Department says they were called to the McDonalds restaurant on Elbert Street for the reported shooting after 10:15 p.m..  Upon arrival, officers learned the suspect had fled the scene while officers found a restaurant employee had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.  Officers administered first aid until local EMS arrived to assume advanced lifesaving measures.

Police say the victim was transported to Elbert Memorial Hospital, where the unidentified male later died from his injuries.

Elberton Police details in the preliminary investigation determined that the victim was involved in an argument with a male suspect in the restaurant’s lobby when the suspect presented a firearm and discharged multiple shots, and striking the employee.  Investigators then called the GBI to assume the homicide case.

No further details on the suspect, or reasons for the fatal altercation have been released. Anyone with further details or leads in the case are asked to contact the GBI Tip Line at (800) 597-8477, or Elberton Police Department at (706) 213-3130.
