CLEVELAND, Ga. — Truett McConnell University has launched a nationwide search for its next president, according to a press release from the university. The search follows the ouster of former President Dr. Emir Caner. The TMU Board of Trustees removed Caner as president after a months-long investigation into an alleged sex scandal and cover-up on the small Southern Baptist campus in Cleveland.
The TMU Presidential Search Committee announced Wednesday that it is now accepting nominations and applications from leaders “who possess a deep commitment to the University’s mission, values, and vision.” The next president, the committee said, will play a pivotal role in shaping TMU’s future growth and upholding its dedication to academic and spiritual excellence.
Candidate qualifications
According to the university’s release, candidates must hold a doctoral degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) or equivalent professional experience—generally more than ten years in higher education or a comparable field. Applicants must also be recognized, active leaders within the Baptist faith and demonstrate success in higher education management, fundraising, and public relations.
In addition, all candidates must affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 and be able to articulate its theological principles.
Application details
The committee will accept résumés and letters of recommendation from November 3 through November 28, 2025. Interested individuals must have a colleague or friend submit the materials by email to lisa@fbcvr.com. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
