Atlanta Police Department officers arrested two suspects after a stolen vehicle crashed in southwest Atlanta earlier this month.
Police said officers were alerted on March 16 to a stolen vehicle near Campbellton Road SW and Delowe Drive SW. As officers set up a perimeter, the vehicle was found after it crashed into a pole near Campbellton Road SW and Bent Creek Way SW, leaving it disabled.
Authorities said one suspect was taken into custody while trying run away. A second suspect was detained after a bystander alerted officers to a man running from the scene.
One of the suspects can be heard telling officers, “I’m so sorry, I never been in trouble.”
The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Jaylen Hollaway and 17-year-old Maurice Hines. The vehicle had been reported stolen by the East Point Police Department.
Hollaway was charged with criminal damage to property and felony theft by taking. Hines faces multiple charges, including felony theft by receiving, reckless driving, hit and run, obstruction and driving without a valid license. Both were taken to the Fulton County Jail.
Police remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
