DC Studios is once again heading to Georgia. Filmmaker James Gunn has confirmed that his next project, Man of Tomorrow, will begin production in April 2026, with filming headquartered at Trillith Studios in Fayetteville, just south of Atlanta. The blockbuster will serve as a direct follow-up to 2025’s Superman, continuing the new DC Universe Gunn helped launch — though it’s not being billed as a traditional sequel. Production of “Man of Tomorrow” appears to be using the code name “Exodus” (contrasted with the Gunn’s first Superman’s code name, “Genesis”).

Returning to Georgia’s Trillith Studios

Man of Tomorrow will mark Gunn’s second consecutive DC feature to be based at Trillith Studios, as well as Peacemaker Season 2 (and previously Marvel productions). Trillith is one of the most advanced production campuses in the world. Trillith previously hosted Superman (2025) as which became a major economic driver for the state. According to the Motion Picture Association, Superman filmed 68 days across the greater Atlanta region, generating $82.8 million in local economic activity and contributing more than $100 million total when combined with shoots in Georgia and Ohio.

The production also:

  • Created 1,233 local jobs
  • Employed 2,628 extras
  • Supported 441 Georgia businesses
  • Delivered $43.6 million in local wages

Gunn, who co-chairs DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, is known to have a home in Fayette County, where Trillith Studios is located. Insiders say he’s been a strong advocate for keeping DC’s major productions in Georgia, citing the state’s skilled workforce and robust film tax incentives.

What to Expect from ‘Man of Tomorrow’

The upcoming film will again star David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Though their rivalry continues, reports suggest the two may be forced to team up against a shared threat. Characters like Supergirl (Milly Alcock), Lobo (Jason Momoa), and Peacemaker (John Cena) are rumored to appear, along with possible returns from Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, who teased fans on Instagram with the caption, “See you soon.”

Industry speculation points to cosmic-level villains like Brainiac or teams such as The Authority as potential antagonists. The storyline may also begin planting seeds for the eventual formation of the Justice League within Gunn’s expanding DCU.

Warner Bros. Discovery has set a July 9, 2027 release date for Man of Tomorrow.

James Gunn’s DC Future in Question

Despite the success of both Superman and Peacemaker, Gunn’s position at DC Studios may not be as secure as fans once believed. Following his record-breaking success with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and his acclaimed DC projects, Gunn was seen as the creative force capable of rebuilding Warner Bros.’ superhero universe from the ground up.

However, recent reports suggest Warner Bros. Discovery is exploring a potential sale, which could result in leadership changes across its divisions—including DC Studios. Gunn recently fueled speculation during an interview on the BobaTalks YouTube channel, where he was asked if the storylines introduced in Superman and Peacemaker would extend beyond Man of Tomorrow.

“They go significantly further,” Gunn said, before adding cryptically, “Whether or not that’ll be me that’s able to fulfill that promise depends on a lot of things in life.”

While he didn’t elaborate, industry watchers believe Gunn may be hinting at the uncertain future of his role should new ownership take control. Losing him could derail the momentum DC has finally built—he’s widely regarded as the architect of the studio’s most cohesive cinematic universe in years.

Paramount May Keep Gunn and Safran in Charge

Fortunately for fans, it appears DC Studios will remain stable if Paramount completes its rumored acquisition of Warner Bros. According to Bloomberg, Paramount CEO David Ellison, who became the company’s controlling shareholder after Skydance Media merged with Paramount in August, reportedly plans to retain the creative leadership teams of both Paramount and Warner Bros.—including James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC Studios.

If the merger goes through, this would ensure Gunn and Safran stay on as co-CEOs of DC Studios, preserving the creative vision that has already revitalized DC’s cinematic universe.

Both Superman and Peacemaker are streaming now on HBO Max.
