A Banks County firefighter sustained minor burns while battling a brush fire at a residence in Alto on Sunday.
Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols says their Fire and Emergency Services units responded to a home on the 220 block of Sandy Drive in Alto after 2:00 Sunday afternoon. Upon arrival, crews discovered a brush fire covering two acres of property, a mobile home structure fire along with more than 100 discarded tires involved in flames.
Nichols says the mobile home fire was quickly doused after the building sustained minor damage. The brush fire was doused with aid from the Georgia Forestry Fire Prevention department as the ignited tires were separated and extinguished. Authorities are investigating the tire debris through Banks County and Georgia State EPD Department officials for old tire disposal matters as the brush fire was determined to get out of control from a person living on the property.
Nichols adds that one firefighter sustained minor burns to one hand while battling the flames. The fire was reported as doused and the incident terminated from coverage just before 5:00 p.m. Sunday.
