Some soaking showers and gusting winds will likely bring some thunderstorms into much of northeast Georgia later in Tuesday morning and early afternoon.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City reports the showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage beginning on Tuesday morning with peak coverage from Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night. The NWS also says there is a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for a few severe thunderstorms, primarily Tuesday afternoon and evening. That listed risk includes the possibility for:
-
- locally damaging wind gusts 40-60 mph
- isolated hail to the size of quarters
- low-end brief tornado risk.
A much-needed rainfall will also occur with many areas of north Georgia experiencing a soaking rainfall possible. Lower amounts will occur in Middle Georgia. A potential for the following is also possible through the day:
- Thunderstorm wind gusts 40-60 mph as well as any isolated, brief tornado could lead to sporadic tree and power line damage as well as isolated structure damage.
- Locally heavy rainfall could lead to water ponding on roadways, particularly where fallen leaves clog storm drains.
