The Stephens County Planning Commission recommended approval of proposed amendments to the Land Use Ordinance at their monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 7. The first was clarification of requirements for accessory buildings and structures, explains Stephens County Administrator Christian Hamilton.

The Planning Commission recommended approval of four variance requests to allow for the placement of an accessory structure in the front yard of agricultural residential homes. This is something that the Planning Commission often considers, and changing the language of the Land Use Ordinance will allow residents to seek approval from county staff.

Stephens County Planning Commissioner Brett Ivester encourages residents to attend the Board of Commissioners meeting and learn more about the proposed change.

Another proposed amendment to the Land Use Ordinance would add a definition and conditional uses for data centers, explains Hamilton.

The Planning Commission is a recommending Authority for the Board of Commissioners. The Planning Commission meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at 37 West Tugalo Street in Toccoa. The Board of Commissioners hears the Planning Commission recommendations on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.
