TOCCOA, Ga. — A Stephens County jury has convicted 37-year-old Corey Lydell Bryant of murder and multiple related charges in the stabbing death of Angela Baker of Toccoa.

Jurors returned their verdict on Friday, Oct. 24, finding Bryant guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, and affray.

According to prosecutors, the evidence presented during the weeklong trial showed that between the evening of Nov. 21 and the morning of Nov. 22, 2024, Bryant assaulted Baker with a knife inside her home on East Franklin Street. Baker, 42, died after suffering multiple stab wounds. Bryant fled the scene but was later apprehended.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Suzanne M. Boykin and Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Payne James of the Mountain Judicial Circuit presented more than 200 pieces of evidence during the trial before Superior Court Judge Carlton H. Jones III.

In a statement, the District Attorney’s Office thanked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Region Eight Field Office and Division of Forensic Sciences, along with the Toccoa Police Department and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, for their efforts in helping bring the case to justice.

Bryant is scheduled to be sentenced in November. He faces a minimum of 30 years in prison and could receive a maximum sentence of life without parole plus six additional years in the Georgia Department of Corrections.
