WALHALLA, S.C. — Stephens County investigators helped track down a Michigan fugitive Thursday afternoon in Walhalla, South Carolina. Authorities arrested 35-year-old Kyle Alband of Detroit after a coordinated, multi-agency search.
Alband was wanted in Michigan for criminal sexual conduct – 3rd degree (force or coercion) and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He also had a warrant for failure to appear in court on those charges, according to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation began last week when an SCSO task force agent with the GBI Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) learned that Alband might be hiding in the Toccoa-Stephens County area. Agents later discovered he had been moving through several states after fleeing Michigan.
During the joint investigation, authorities received information that Alband had crossed into South Carolina and was staying at a home in Oconee County. On Thursday, the U.S. Marshals Service, SCSO investigators, GBI ARDEO agents, and deputies from the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office located him in Walhalla and arrested him without incident.
Alband was booked into the Oconee County Jail, where he is awaiting extradition to Michigan.
Stephens County officials thanked their state and federal partners for their assistance in the operation.
