The Stephens County Board of Commissioners approved a contractor for the Coroner’s building project and set Amnesty Day at their meeting on Tuesday, March 24.

Stephens County Administrator Christian Hamilton gives the contractor selected for the new Coroner’s Office building project.

Stephens County Coroner Kyle Johnson thanked Commissioners for working with his office on the building project.

“For decades, the Coroner’s Office and County Morgue have been split between two separate facilities. The Coroner’s Office was housed at the Stephens County Government Building and the Morgue near the Sheriff’s Office. After proper planning and thorough work between County Commissioners, the County Administrator, and the Coroner’s Office, a plan was set. This new facility will allow the Coroner to better assist the community with conducting death investigations and fast-track their efforts in giving families the closure they deserve. Over the past year, we have visited surrounding areas to tour other facilities and gather ideas to help us improve our needs. I am very thankful for the support from our Commissioners and excited to see this project move forward.”

Work on the new Coroner’s Office will begin soon.

This year’s Amnesty Day in Stephens County is April 11. Hamilton says this is a free day to come dump your junk.

More details about Amnesty Day on April 11 will be announced in the coming days.
